When I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do, I started watching the old Buck Rogers & Flash Gordon serials, plus the American version of “Space Patrol” and some of the old Gerry Anderson shows. I was watching the second Flash Gordon serial (I think it was the second), where Ming the Merciless released this virus on Earth that caused “red splotches” on people. I knew this would be the basis of the film, but what should the virus/bacteria affect? Not people, and definitely not a zombie virus. How about money? Gold, silver, jewels?

While I was making those little videos, and trying to make these ideas into a show, I begin thinking of whether or not I could build a film from these ideas. So I dug out some of the old Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers serials (starring Buster Crabbe), several episodes of the American TV show Space Patrol, which was the first television Sci-fi program with recurring characters. There was a British TV program also called Space Patrol, which I don’t know a whole lot about except one of Gerry Anderson’s colleagues made the TV show for British TV. Speaking of Gerry Anderson, one of the programs I watched was Gerry Anderson’s XL 5 Fireball, from which I “obtained” the idea of a photon reactor, looked it up and was really surprised that people are working on the idea.

If you want to know more, go to: http://www.meridian-int-res.com/Energy/PhotonReactor.pdf

Where did I obtain most of my ideas? I honestly don’t know where. The photon reactor, like I said, was lifted from XL-5 Fireball. I watched the Flash Gordon serial, some say second serial, some say third serial, where Ming the Merciless infected the Earth with “the Purple Death.” And Flash and his crew had to go stop him, obtaining the vaccine.

In the Bugs Bunny cartoon, Haredevil Hare, Marvin the Martin cackles with glee over his Q-36 Illudium Modulator with which he can blow up the earth.

Okay, on Space Command spaceships, the Photon Reactor generates a massive amount of power. This power is focused through the Illudium Q-35 Modulator to the Tantalus High Power circuit and distributed out to the ship from there. And if all else fails, Chief Labrador can hook up the emergency hamster.

Yes, the emergency hamster started out being emergency battery power, but somewhere along the way, my warped sense of humor thought about a hamster. A hamster which could provide emergency power, enough for the BS Ahimsa Maru to safely land and the tech crew could repair the damage. I tell ya, if these weren’t workable ideas popping into my head, I would be worried about how I am thinking up these really strange ideas. No, I know, I wouldn’t worry about what has happened for all of my life.

Star Trek never explained the theory behind controlling the annihilation of matter by combining matter and anti-matter. Star Wars explained their propulsion even less. I use the above paragraphs and let it go at that.

I think the final film will be great and I hope everyone seeing this will watch it.
